Coach names Dream Teams for Feb 20 !
Anyone can sign up for the tournament February 20 either by
going to the schoolchess.org website and registering or showing up
at Metcalf Jr High in Burnsville before 8:30 on February 20.
You will need $10 for the entrance fee, $5 for lunch and a ride
to the Metcalf Jr. High by 8:30 and home again at about 4:00. Carpool with someone else on the list.
I'm going to try to have the school pay half.
Don't worry if your name is not on my list. You cannot hurt our team score by not doing well.
You will play 5 games (perhaps 4 in 7th or 8th grade with more time per game)
If you haven't played in a year, don't worry. You have matured and actually will play a lot better than the last time you touched a chessboard. I've been coaching a long time and have found this to be true.
Encourage your friends to come out for chess club and see if we can make a dream come true.
If you see a friend's name on this list, tell them they made Mr. Heinemann's dream team!
DREAM TEAMS (we need 3 for a team)
8th grade
980 Shyion Bonner
742 Pahlee Thao
714 Bobby Fraser
677 Ethan Yang
612 John Schray
The top three comprise the team that took 2nd place in the state last year. The addition of Ethan and John will make this a powerful team. There are better players out there, but are there better teams?
7th grade
732 Victoria Vang
657 Caleb Gamez
532 Sirichai Thao
522 Pengxu Xiong
519 Steven Estrada
495 Ahmad Oatis
Not as strong as the 8th grade team, but this team could score 7 points - is that good enough??
6th grade
810 Caleb Vang
653 Bailey Arrigoni
647 Annabel Yang
555 Michael Davis
I'm excited to see what this team could do. 8 points maybe
5th grade - no dream team
4th grade
741 Luche Yang
492 Elvis Schiung
344 Anly Lee
289 Wameng Thao
287 Dealir Lee
The top two are solid players who can score 5+ points can we get 1.5 or 2 from someone else?
3rd grade - no dream team but I'd like to see how some of our top 3rd graders can do.
